In this topic we focus on the correct door measurement for custom manufacturing of an aluminium door. Most Builders, Developers and Home Owners rush a building project to get the next claim from the financial institution, and therefore put pressure on the Aluminium Windows Contractor to manufacture and install ASAP.
Ok, so you are under pressure and stressed, and you insisted that the appointed Aluminium Windows Contractor, Premium Aluminium (PTY) Ltd measure all the openings to start the manufacturing of the Aluminium Doors.
Tip: Complete your screed levels before you contact the Aluminium Manufacturer to take measurements.
The Aluminium Contractor arrives on site to measure the openings. The first observation from the Aluminium Contractor it that, no screeding was done and floor levels are incomplete. The Aluminium Contractor continues to measure, because the client wants the Aluminium Doors “like yesterday”.
The Client will face two problematic results on site,
- Firstly the door is too long. Why? Because when the Aluminium Contractor measured, no screeding was done, and the aluminium contractor had to measure from the surface bed to the lintel. He would’ve made allowance for an estimated 35mm screed and 10-15mm for tiles. Unfortunately the screed is now 65mm. Your door looks like the picture below:
- The second problem, the door is too short. Why? Because when the Aluminium Contractor measured, no screeding was done, and the aluminium contractor had to measure from the surface bed to the lintel. He would’ve made allowance for an estimated 35mm screed and 10-15mm for tiles. Unfortunately the screed is now 15mm. Now your door looks like the picture below:
The Aluminium Contractor cannot take measurements before your screeding is completely done. Why? If your surface bed is uneven you have to compensate with the screed to get your floor level correct. Screed should be between 30-45mm, but I’ve been on building sites with screed thickness between 25 -95mm.
Please Note: The Aluminium Contractor will not be responsible for reducing or increasing the door sizes. The additional cost will be for the Clients’ account. See Our Terms & Conditions.
The formula for measuring doors are as follows:
Measure Top of Screed level to underside of Lintel: = 2135 (H) (tight measurement)
2135 – 10mm (Play)
2125 + 45 (Door Threshold) Different door systems have different threshold heights!
2170 – 15 (Allowance for Tiles, Laminated Floors or Carpet)
Final Manufacturing size for your door 2155 (H)
The Perfect Door Measurement!
